The team of actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna filed a formal complaint with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police on October 26, 2026, over alleged fake narratives, fabricated content, and targeted online harassment. The complaint was submitted in person by their manager, P. Nishanth Kumar, on behalf of the Virosh team.
The move follows a wave of online backlash after the couple appeared on Koffee With Karan Season 9. The complaint identifies specific posts, doctored screenshots, impersonation, and coordinated harassment across social media platforms.
What the Complaint Alleges
The Virosh team said it submitted relevant links and supporting evidence for examination. The complaint points to false narratives, manipulated screenshots, fabricated quotations, and deceptively altered images or videos.
It also flags claims about events during the television programme, purported emotional distress, changes in social media following activity, and statements presenting a breakup, separation, or divorce as fact.
The team has asked authorities to examine whether the content could be part of a coordinated or paid campaign, if the evidence points that way. Each identified instance of publishing, reposting, or amplifying the content may be examined separately.
Team Statement on Free Speech
In a press release, the Virosh team said, ‘While we fully respect freedom of speech, individual opinions and the right to express criticism, there is a clear distinction between expressing an opinion and presenting fabricated, manipulated or materially misleading claims as facts.’
The statement added, ‘This is not an attempt to restrict genuine opinions or criticism. It is a request for accountability where demonstrably false information or unlawful conduct may be involved.’
The team also urged social media users to exercise responsibility and refrain from presenting speculation as established fact.
Police Response
The Cyberabad Police said the complaint was submitted to the Additional DCP, Serilingampally Zone, and is being examined. In a release, police said, ‘No case is registered as the contents of the petition are non-cognizable in nature.’
The complaint has been received, and authorities will review the submitted material before deciding the next steps.
Backdrop: Koffee With Karan Backlash
The controversy began after Vijay and Rashmika appeared on the second episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9. During the conversation, Rashmika recalled asking Vijay to marry her at an airport, and Vijay replied that she should ask him 100 times.
Rashmika said she continued asking him for nearly a year. The exchange triggered online commentary about their relationship, including unfounded divorce rumours despite the couple having married in February 2026.
Rashmika and Vijay Respond
Earlier on October 26, Rashmika shared an eight-page note addressing the backlash. She called those criticising them an ‘angry mob’ and defended their relationship, explaining that Vijay’s decision to take time before marriage was about getting to know each other better.
She wrote, ‘I am OBSESSED with my man. When did that become a bad thing?’
Vijay also posted a response on social media. He wrote, ‘My best friend, my wife, my woman. One of the most beautiful parts of my life that I got absolutely right. For all those concerned, We are both gloriously happy. I am blessed. If its me and her against the world – so be it.’
The Hyderabad Cyber Crime authorities are examining the complaint and the submitted evidence. No case has been registered yet.
